Jet Ski Insurance
Jet Ski insurance covers what is known as PWC (Personal Water Craft). A PWC or Jet Ski is a a water jet driven craft designed to carry between one and four people. Propulsion comes from a directionally controlled water jet drive. Generally to get a quote your insured PWC needs to be no older than 10 years and will be driven by everyone who is at least 16 years of age. Younger people would struggle to handle this type of fast vessel, so are not covered by insurance companies. In fact, some insurers prefer drivers to be over 25 years old and add additional premiums for those that are younger.
Insured PWC need to operate in either coastal waters or on inland waterways, such as rivers, lakes or lochs. Most insurance companies will only cover you for pleasure proposes, not commercial operations. Theft is a major issue with these popular craft and if you can store your PWC in a secure locked garage or similar building, then your annual payment will be greatly reduced.
Although in Britain there is no legal requirement to have your Jet Ski insured, you will find that places allowing you to use it will ask for proof of Third Party Liability Insurance of at least £2,000,000. Also if you intend to take your PWC abroad to Europe, they will insist on insurance cover. Basically, you can have two types of Jet Ski Insurance, Third Party Liability, which offers you cover when you cause damage to another person either onboard your craft or as a result of a collision. It also covers you when you collide with another craft or someone else’s property. The other type of insurance is Comprehensive, which covers all the previous mentioned plus theft, vandalism, accidental damage and even fire!
